Default will GW get more expansions after GW2 release?

I dont think it would be a good idea to make more campaigns but maybe more expansions that just requires one of the campaigns like EOTN.
my guess is that GW1 popularity will increase after GW2 is out because people will see what an awesome game it is and will wanna check out the original so sales of GW1 will most likely increase after GW2 is release.

I think Anet should not let GW die out after GW2 is out and should keep working on it and create more content this is such a great game and should be preserved for the future, who knows maybe they can release that unfinished Utopia expansion with all the money they will make when GW2 is out.

They will keep GW1 running, but I'm pretty sure they wont make more expansions. The live team will probably still be doing things though.

I believe they stated the opposite: the HoM system in GW1 will keep going even after the release of the sequel.

No, they will not release campaigns or expansions for GW after GW2 is released. And here's why:

The business model for GW1 was to release a new campaign every 6 months. ArenaNet realized halfway through the unreleased 4th campaign GW:Utopia that they could not uphold this business model forever. They also had many ideas that they wanted to implement but couldn't because there would be no logical explanation for them, such as super advanced technology (compared to the rest of the game) being widely used in one campaign. Instead, they decided to start a new game. With new creation tools at their disposal and a few years of experience behind them, they could finally start making the game they always wanted to make but couldn't before. They released GW: Eye of the North (which uses concepts scrapped from Utopia, such as races and areas) as a way to hold us over until they could finish the game, which they thought would be out by now, however we have information that confirms they have started the game over from scratch at least once, and developers will tell you about how many times they get something going and then one day just throw it out if it doesn't fit. In all, its actually quite amazing that GW2 is as far along in the development process as it currently is.

Don't get me wrong, they of course will make patch updates for skills and keep all holiday events going, but content in the form of a campaign or expansion is as unlikely as the sun exploding 10 minutes after my post.
I'm sure some form of content will be worked on, but the larger updates will be far and few between. GuildWars2 isn't just a new money maker, its the game they wanted to make from day 1, and I expect them to spend much more time on it than they ever spent on GW1.

I doubt very much if anything on the scale of EYE will be created but something like the war in Kryta/ winds of change but a little more ambitions could happen.

I just hope they keep the liveteam working on bugs and other fixes/updates just like they are doing now. So no, I don't think they should work on another GW1 expansion.

That being said, what is it with people suddenly losing track of their good manners on the internet. I highly doubt that any polite person would start his argumentation with "I hope the stupidity of the previous speaker isn't contegious..." in real life. But thats a different discussion; and me taking the internet too serious I guess-_-

I think sales of GW 1 will increase because it is to ANet's advantage to sell more games. I see additional bonuses being added to GW 1 perhaps through HoM or perhaps through an alternate GW 1 quest given in GW 2 with a reward code being returned to GW 2. The live team will get more funding if sales of GW 1 justifies it and I think this will happen.

I doubt new content areas will open up. Modifications to existing areas is possible. Important thing is GW 1 is not going away.

They won't create more expansions for gw1 as they canceled utopia and made eotn instead as a transition for gw2.
It is possible that something like WiK or WoC will release after the gw2 release, but I don't think it's very likely as one of the reasons to create gw2 was that they wanted to do stuff which they couldn't do in gw1 with the game engine and all.
They will keep gw1 running as long as there's population enough to justify it. I'm thinking that when they pull down the servers then maybe they'll release some kind of singleplayer version for those hardcore gw1 fans who still want to play.

An answer of "yes" or "no" cannot be determined successfully because....

They still made expansions for EverQuest (1999) long after EverQuest II (2004) came out. It just depends on how large/supportive the player base is after GW2 comes out.

Just look at this list of expansions to the original game given that it's sequel came out in 2004.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EverQuest#Expansions

Then again, it is a P2P game and has a load of expansions. I'm still not saying it *can't* happen to GW1 when it's not P2P.

im pretty sure they have said they wont make anymore. im too lazy to search all the press releases to check it, but i know they changed eotn into an expansion not a campaign, and i think they said its because they wanted to concentrate on gw2. also, gw 1 is essentially dying, there just isnt the market for a new campaign, especially at the prices that they would have to charge to make it worth it. they might be awful at customer relations, but anet arent retarded, and they wont make a game they wont make money on

I think after GW2 is released they'll be too busy making expansions to GW2. After all, we have to make it back to Cantha to free people from the tyrannical new emperor, and then it's off to Elona to fight Palawa Joko and rebuild the sunspears.

If I remember the official position on GW1 continuance, they'll keep doing holidays and special events; but I wouldn't expect anything new or exciting. If they even change a single holiday quest I'd be truly shocked.

Essentially they said they will keep GW up and running while there is interest, this of course given the realities of a commercial enterprise, is short-hand for "at some stage we will pull the plug", and I would imagine this could be sooner than many people imagine.

It would be great if people continued to purchase GW after GW2 release, however I doubt this will happen in any meaningful way, and if there is no income stream, well... they are not a charity.

I am expecting that servers will be shut off at some stage, just when that happens is anyone's guess, could be months, could be a year. Time will tell.

Guild Wars Beyond :
-Winds of Change
- War in Kryta
- Hearts of the North

Not yet released : Beyond Elona, involving Palawa Joko.

Quote:
John Stumme has stated that when he and the live team look at Elona, they would like to expand on the story of Palawa Joko and continue that plot thread, which was left dangling in Nightfall.

I *think* it will be at least an extra 5 years or more:
- there are still new players coming to gw1
- not every gw1 player is going to move to gw2
- some players will be disappointed at gw2 and may want to return to gw1
- probably more (but i am tired)

Sure, without new content, it will be harder to generate an income as gw1 isnt a p2p game. But with some decent content in their ingame shop they probably make enough to pay for the servers (maybe less territories in the future).

Arenanet is a company and money is important, but goodwill too. Pull the plug too soon and they will upset a lot of people who may not want to buy any of the new products ever again.

I think there are enough gameservers already running for 10+ years (many are shooters, but still those are no p2p games), so why cant gw1 be one of them?

As people dwindle, they'll need less bandwidth to maintain the servers, too. For the sake of the playerbase it'll be quite a while and they'll give significant advance warning before doing anything drastic.

I think that is such a good idea, especially since so many players have said that even though they will play GW2, they will continue to play GW1 as well.
